Amidst a global economic slowdown, Asia Pacific office investment volume fell 56 percent year-on-year in the second quarter as buyer and seller expectations remain disparate, according to MSCI. With traditional markets readjusting, core investors have tuned into emerging trends in search for yield, with life sciences and other fast-growing segments garnering more attention from investors.
Earlier last year, a joint venture backed by Dutch pension fund manager APG Asset Management acquired assets in Beijing and Shanghai with plans to develop the sites into life science campuses consisting of manufacturing facilities and R&D office buildings. More recently, an arm of South Korea’s IGIS Asset Management, also teamed up with CHA Bio Group to launch a $630 million platform for life science investments across the region.
